I Love You More Than...
Published in Hardcover by Family Connections Pub Co (15 December, 1998)
Authors: Elizabeth Hickey, James Cohen, Lynda Smart Brown, and Elizabeth Hickey/James Cohen
Average review score:

A charming book
Good for everyone who ever wanted to tell someone just how much they love them. Kind and loving, it's a sentiment that everyone should want to share with a loved one- child, sibling, parent, friend or whatever. There is no way you'll feel bad after reading this book..

This book is a treasure!
Elizabeth Hickey's nationally award winning video "Children: The Experts on Divorce" contains a scene where a little boy is asked, "So what do you think parents should say to their children when they're going through divorce?" The young man, without hesitation, replies, "They should just tell them that they love them." Armies of mental health practitioners, divorce lawyers and judges know from their experience the wisdom of that little boy's advice.

Elizabeth Hickey's new book, I Love You More Than . . ., offers a beautiful way to deliver this message of love and caring. The story is a conversation between a little girl and her father, part real and part imagined. The photographs, illustrations and text combine to create a moving and powerful message of love between a parent and child.

The book is cleverly constructed to be universally applicable since the family structure of the characters is ambiguous. While father speaks of his love for his daughter, the message is acknowledged "from Mommy, too." The story does not state whether the parents are together, separated, unmarried, married or divorced.

It was heart-warming to share this book with my eleven year old son, Mark. Here are Mark's comments:

The story I Love You More Than . . . walks you through a little girl's dream about how much her father loves her. The beautiful illustrations contribute to the story greatly by giving the reader a picture of the child's wonderful dream. I thought that the photographs were adorable. They reminded me of when I was a toddler and my parents read stories to me. I think that all children and adults will find this story inspiring and touching to the heart.

Unlike fairy tales, this story makes the child whose parents read them this book feel that their parents really love them. I am sure that all kids would enjoy having this book read to them as much as I did. This book is sure to be a classic bedtime favorite.

Mark's responses reflect those of other children and adults who have encountered this book. I Love You More Than . . . conjures warm memories of the best parts of the reader's relationship with his or her parents. These combine in such a positive and gentle way to melt the heart of all parents and help them share the warm glow of their parental love with their children. This book is a treasure. The world is a better place because it is available.

Will establish a wonderful love link between parent & child
This is a magical book that will take both parent and child on a lovely journey reminding them both of the love they have for each other. The illustrations are done in wonderful detail and will provide lots of opportunity for conversation and expectation during subsequent readings. It is sure to become a favorite with many, especially the Daddy/Daughter combination. I have sent copies to each of my young grandchildren and they all love it!

The Ice Palace
Published in Paperback by Peter Owen Ltd (May, 2002)
Authors: Tarjei Vesaas and Elizabeth Rokkan
Average review score:

Absolutely beautiful
A beautiful book. The imagery is lovely, and I got hooked when one of the characters actually wanders into the ice palace. The descriptions of the light, and the interplay of the changing colors and shapes of the ice were mesmerizing--I stayed up late and couldn't go to bed. And in the morning it seemed it should be all ice outside instead of the height of summer. Tremendously atmospheric, simply splendid. The first book in about six months to make it straight to my read-again shelf. And short--a quick read if you're busy.

True art!
One of the most beautiful books ever written. You are not literate before you have read this book.

the burden of a secret
From the first sentence Tarjei Vesaas draws the reader into a world of icy chill and unspoken foreboding ,drawn with language as spare, beautiful and relentless as the wintry nordic landscape. Two girls on the brink of puberty experience a moment of furtive sexual and spiritual awakening that neither is emotionally prepared for; when one of them subsequently vanishes from her home the other is lost in a welter of guilt and confusion. An unusual and evocative exploration of emotional isolation, both real and self imposed

In the Spotlight (Heart Beats, 3)
Published in Paperback by Aladdin Library (October, 1998)
Author: Elizabeth M. Rees
Average review score:

Spotlights are on "Heart Beats"
I read all of the "Heart Beats" books. They're great! "In the Spotlight" helps teens, like myself, understand true friendship. Sophy and Inez are friends until Inez is chosen over Sophy in an audition. Then Sophy gets mad atInez. Sophy isn't always as cool and popular as she seems. Some people think she has it all together, but she doesn't. She has the same teenage problems as everyone else. Love, friends, enemies, and family all play a part in her life. I'd encourage you to read this book and the rest of Elizabeth M. Rees' series of "Heart Beats". Once you start reading, you just can't stop!

That spotlight's hot as anything!
Things really heat up in this thrd volume of the Heart Beats series. Sparks fly between Sophy and Carlos, between Carlos and his parents, between Sophy and Inez, between Inez and Ray, between Inez the person and Inez the ballet dancer coming fully into her own. And then we learn more about the ever-mysterious Cat. How all this can take place in a 250 page book is beyond me, but it doesn't seem as if Rees rushed through things; everything is well-paced and given the space it deserves.

Book Three of this series the best read yet!
I love this book! The first two books in this series, "Moving as One" and "Body Lines" tell us all about Carlos and Sophy and Inez and Daly and all the other kids at the new dance school Dance Tech. Carlos and Sophy are meant for each other. But they seem to have a hard time getting together--when they do, problems start up. I like these books because these kids are real even if their dance school is not quite believable. Still I'd love to go to a school like theirs. Most of my friends are Latino and I love that one hero and his sister are too. Inez is very interesting. And Carlos is to die for. I hope Sophy realizes this and doesn't miss out on him. I can't wait to read the next book "Latin Nights" Heart Beats is like a real soap opera. It should be on t.v.

Intercessors - Discover Your Prayer Power
Published in Paperback by Regal Books (November, 2000)
Authors: Elizabeth Alves, Barbara Femrite, and Karen Kaufman
Average review score:

Intercessors has set me free!
I just finished this book and I can't rave enough about it! I finally understand that I don't have to sit and pray for 2 hours every day to be powerful in prayer. I highly recommend this book. It's a must for people who struggle with prayer.

Prayer is FUN - stand in the gap!
Did you ever go to a prayer meeting and where happy when you could finally go home again? Actually, you always knew that you were not an intercessor but just wanted to make sure? Or did you think that prayer is a must because the bible says that we should pray without ceasing but you where not really enjoying it? Then this book was written for YOU! Through this book I found out that there are many kinds of intercessors. To intercede actually means to stand in the gap for someone. The authors (I had the honour to experience Tommi and Beth life) give vivid examples from the bible and from their lives. There are list intercessors (a favourite among pastors) like Ezra, government intercessors like Daniel, prophetic intercessors like Moses, mercy intercessors like Jeremiah, crisis intercessors like David (see Psalms), etc. What are you? I learnt from this book that there is not a pure kind. But every time we get on our prayer bones (knees) we might be the one kind or another kind, maybe a combination. Where is your passion when you pray? It's all right when we spend most of the time weeping tears of identification for the lost. Another day we might do warfare intercession. When we come together, only TOGETHER we pray the heart of God. Only if we all contribute we will have His whole heart; someone brings a list, another tears, another a song, etc. Prayer is FUN, stand in the gap!

Finding the proper armor
So many of us pray without knowing what our strengths. As Dutch Sheets states in the preface, we are going from defining to refining and assigning in these last days of the church before the warrior-bride is called home. If you know how to fit yourself for battle and focus as the authors call us to do, you can use your best armor to withstand satan's arrows while doing battle in prayer for another. This book is an automatic followup to Dutch Sheets' book on Intercessory Prayer and was a "don't lay down until I finish it" type of book. It strengthens any Christian who would read it in their prayer life. We may even use it for a women's ministry study!

Comprehensive text on professional communication
I liked this text book. It is clearly written and comprehensive--so difficult to find in a communication textbook. The communication exercises are thought provoking and I like the text boxes. The case studies seem real and capture some of the nursing communication dilemmas I have encountered as a student. This text is a keeper!

Intuitive Astrology: Follow Your Best Instincts to Become Who You Always Intended to Be
Published in Paperback by Ballantine Books (Trd) (03 June, 2003)
Author: Elizabeth Rose Campbell
Average review score:

Worth reading for enthusiastic support of your personal best
You can use this book to learn as much about astrology as you want--or just for inspiration. Intuitive Astrology demonstrates that Elizabeth Rose Campbell not only is an astrologer who really wants to open the door for you, but also is a writer with real literary promise.

Intuitive Astrology
I am not an astrologer, but I have had my natal chart done by a few different people, and have also had a couple of synastries done as well as transits and progressions. I think of myself as somewhat conversant in the language of astrology, but definitely a beginner--I still don't have all the houses memorized for instance. I thought the structure of the book was fabulous. The workbook format was incredibly helpful--asking questions for you to really think about and get a handle on where and how a house or sign or planet fits in your life. The tone of the book was like having a conversation with your own personal astrologer--weaving in stories from her own background as well as illustrating points via the twelve people she profiled was excellent. It helped me visualize and understand the complexities of different planet/sign/house etc. interactions. I also liked the easy to understand explanations of squares, trines, oppositions. And probably the most important thing I loved about the book and about Elizabeth Campbell's take on astrology is her non-judgemental stance and focus on the positive. She might explain how different things could derail you, or challenge you, but it is always with a healthy dose of how to spin the dice in a positive fashion. It is my favorite book on astrology that I have ever read!

At last, now I "get it".
I've been a believer in the efficacy of astrology to help you understand why you or people you know are feeling and/or acting in certain ways.(Helps me be more understanding). The trouble was I just didn't get how it worked until Elizabeth brought the houses, signs, etc., with their different personalities,to life. Now I can play the game too and work on "Being the person I always intended to be." Good well written book.

It's My Ovaries, Stupid!
Published in Hardcover by Scribner (May, 2003)
Author: Elizabeth Vliet
Average review score:

Excellent
If you have ever suspected that issues you may have (acne, fatigue, mood swings, depression, migranes, hirsutism, weight gain) are related to your hormones, you MUST read this book. It legitimizes concerns, and gives very clear guidelines on how to get help. It discusses what tests you should have, as well as what your results should be. This is one of the only books I've read that makes the important point that lab references do NOT equal optimal results...a very important point when discussing lab results with your doctor. All women, especially young women, who are interested in this subject and in taking control of their own healthcare should read this book.

Excellent Book- Extensive Information
I have all of Dr. Vliet's books. I have also attended Her Place. Her medical knowledge is superior and she also understands women. She encourages women to take responsibility for their own health. A wealth of information and help for ALL women.

One of the best books out there on hormones
This book is a comprehensive guide to why so many young women suffer from symptoms (menstrual problems, weight issues, anxiety, depression, infertility, exhaustion, low sex drive, endometriosis, to name a few) that seem related but are dismissed by doctors as being "all in their head". If you have been feeling badly and think hormones could be the cause, buy this book. You will be amazed at how much you learn and how much more knowledgeable you'll be for future doctor visits.

Jennifer's Rabbit
Published in Hardcover by Harpercollins Juvenile Books (08 May, 2001)
Authors: Tom Paxton and Elizabeth Miles
Average review score:

Sailing the Sea of Dreams
In this little charmer the beautiful illustrations and the spritely lyrics that form the text share in the making of magic in equal proportion. Go along with Jennifer as she and her rabbit, a turtle, a kangaroo and seventeen monkeys from the city zoo take a wonderful journey o'er land and sea along the mysterious coasts of dreamland. The jaunty rhythm of the lyrics builds an atmosphere of adventure and fun while the pure poetry of the dreamy words sweeps us along with the action. The pictures are filled with waves, sea spray, pearly foam, glittering stars, castles and sailing ships with red sails. Tucked under cozy covers with this lovely story dancing in their hearts, little sleepy-heads will be off to dreamland themselves in no time! I love this book!

Totally Enchanting!
Jennifer's rabbit runs away one night and she chases after it with the help of her other stuffed animals. They follow the rabbit through the woods and on to a moonlit beach where they all stop long enough to build a beautiful sand castle. Next it's off to sail on a red sailed ship with a crew of friendly pirates. This is a gentle story told in verse. The BEAUTIFUL watercolor paintings of the very talented Elizabeth Miles, alone, make this book worth the price you pay for it. It will delight every child and make grown- ups wish they were children again!

Wonderful Children's Book
This is one of my favorite books, i recived it when i was a little girl, and loved it ever since. It was the first book i learned to read and brightened my imagination. If this book is ever reprinted i would do anything to get it again!

Jeoffry's Christmas
Published in Hardcover by Farrar Straus & Giroux (14 October, 2002)
Authors: Mary Bailey and Elizabeth Sayles
Average review score:

Cat Tracks
Jeoffry takes us on a wondrous journey through the secretive world of the forest. Readers and listeners will feel the quiet as they track each adventure -- riding, jumping, climbing, wandering and finally flying!

Through a symphony of words and illustrations, Bryant and Sayles take us to that lost land where snow and stars merge, and animals feast like kings.

Children and their parents will love the peaceful and drifty feeling that Jeoffry's Christmas provides, as rhythmic and dream-like images "dance in their heads." Striking a balance between man and nature, Jeoffry leaves us in perfect harmony.

Could be a new classic Christmas story!
Uncommonly beautiful poetry, engaging story, good sentiment for troubled times.

Jeoffry's Christmas by Mary Bryant Bailey
PoetMary Bryant Bailey paints us a beautiful picture of giving in her book Jeoffry's Christmas. Isn't that what Christmas is all about. What a wonderful way to share that idea with children. Elizabeth Sayles soft illustrations compliment Mary's deserving verse.
